Helping Those Affected by the Tsunami in Asia

We can help! Our Adventist brothers and sisters have been affected. Other brothers and sisters have been affected who may not be Adventist but are our fellow Christians. Other brothers and sisters who are not Christians but who are also children of God have been affected. We can do something. We must do something.

What can we do?

We can open a fund in the church treasury, donate to it, and pray that God will lead us in giving it to the right place(s) and the right way(s).

We can help the family of an Ohio Adventist pastor - a native Sri Lankan - who lost everything. Shelvan Arunan's family in Sri Lanka escaped with their lives but with nothing else. We can send them money to help them get their lives back together.

There are probably other ways that we can help. Let's think of them.

For a short devotional on why we should, you might want to click on this link:

Services on Christmas Sabbath

At this time, we plan to hold all services as scheduled. Even if the weather should turn particularly nasty, we will still hold services with whomever shows up. However, we would encourage people not to jeopardize life and limb to get to services - and to remember that travel home from services might be harder than travel to the services. The only reason we cancelled services last year was because forcasts showed that travel conditions were deteriorating steadily and we didn't want members injured traveling home from services. We don't plan to cancel services ever again! But we do hope you will use good sense in deciding whether or not to come.

The rehearsals for the program planned for Sabbath have been difficult because of the weather and we are not sure if we will have all the participants present for the program, but we will move ahead with what we have. Special special special thanks to to Desi Harning who has done the work of five people getting ready for the servies this Sabbath in spite of cancellations, interruptions and abandonements!

See you there!

Some things to think about...

The church does not exist to meet our needs. It exists so we can meet other people’s needs.

We have to get past this idea that worship is about music. It’s not! It’s about meeting God in worship. You don’t need music to worship.

When worship becomes all about music, it is a concert, not worship.

If the church were exactly what Jesus wants it to be, there would be no need for change. But if the church is not exactly what Jesus wants it to be, then change is necessary - and the sooner the better.

Change is inevitable in any body - our own physical bodies or the Body of Christ (the Church). Our bodies are constantly replacing old cells for new. The Body of Christ must be constantly adapting to a changing environment or it will face the same future as any other body that fails to adapt - extinction.
